Slave River Records

Named after the waterway coursing through the community of Fort Smith, Northwest Territories, Slave River Records is an independent, Canadian, Aboriginal-owned record label.

The company originated through home recording sessions as a means to promote music by its founders, Veronica and Dave Johnny. Since then, the Toronto-based label has broadened its mandate to establish partnerships developing, recording and promoting the music of individual artists and groups. Slave River Records is particularly interested in, but not limited to, working with Aboriginal artists and musicians from the Northwest Territories.

Slave River Records offers a range of services with the aim of achieving its clients’ artistic goals, from conception through to finished works.

Preliminary or pre-project services include assistance in identifying potential funding sources, help with grant applications and proposal writing.

Project-specific services include digital audio recording, mixing and mastering, with access to a variety of in-house guitars, drum kits, amplifiers and other instruments. Other services include help with songwriting and arranging, the assistance of studio musicians, consultation, promotion and logo/brand development.
